DWP Connects Colorado Main to New Water Pipes Feeding Residences

The project follows last year's replacement of a 16-inch ductile iron water main under Colorado Boulevard.

Seven months after the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power began a project to replace a corroded, 86-year-old water pipe running under Colorado Boulevard, from the Eagle Rock Boulevard crossing in the west to Figueroa Street in the east, DWP crews have begun connecting the water main to a new set of smaller pipes under residential streets north of Colorado.

Like the 16-inch water pipe that was replaced in 2011, the smaller pipes leading to residences had also corroded and needed to be changed, a DWP crew member on the scene of Wednesday's construction on Maywood Avenue and Colorado said.

These photos were taken amid Wednesday afternoon’s rainy weather, as DWP crews were working on Maywood Avenue, near . A similar project connecting the Colorado water main to Shearin Avenue was recently completed.
