Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council Elections: Current Candidates

Thursday is the deadline to qualify as a candidate—14 residents have stepped up so far.

A total of 14 people, including four incumbents, have so far filed their candidature for elections to the scheduled on Oct. 13.

Here are their names and the positions they intend to run for, according to Independent Election Administrator Terrence Gomes of the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment:

Nelson Grande II: President

Robert Guevara: President (Currently Education Director and Secretary)

Peter Hilton: President (Currently Director Sub-District 4)

Tim Ryder: Public Safety Director

Elva Erykah Grande: Sub-District 5 Director

Marc Magallanes: Sub-District 7 Director

Mark Haskell Smith: ERNC Board

Matt Harrington: Sub-District Director

Eddie Ramirez: Civic Director

Lisa Karahalios: Education Institutions Director

Andrea Anderson: Faith-Based Groups Director

Incumbents:

Michael Nogueira: Vice President and Business Director

Irena Seta: Civic Director

Duy Tran: Sub-District 1 Director

Caroline Roncalli: Youth Director

The Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council is in "Region 8" of the network of 95 Neighborhood Councils in Los Angeles, which are meant to serve as the local arm of the Los Angeles City Council. Region 8 represents Northeast Los Angeles, which includes Eagle Rock, Historic Highland Park, Arroyo Seco, Glassell Park, Greater Cypress Park, Lincoln Heights, El Sereno, and Boyle Heights.

The deadline to run for the ERNC elections as well as to vote by mail is Thursday, Sept. 13. Anyone at least 16 years of age who lives, works or owns property in Eagle Rock—or who demonstrates a legitimate stake in the neighborhood—can be a candidate in the elections.
