Election Watch: Arturo Chavez Election Eve Statement

Arturo Chavez is running in the primary for the newly-created 51st District Assembly seat. He posted the statement below on his Facebook page Monday night.

Friends,

Election Day is finally here! Months of hard work have led to this moment. Running for office is no easy task. We were met with many challenges from the beginning and persevered, overcoming each and every obstacle. We have worked long and countless hours, told voters our story of a homegrown family man that chose to stay in El Sereno and help his community, and built a team of loyal and dedicated volunteers whose energy has propelled me to work harder.

On this election day, June 5th, I only ask that you do three things:

1) VOTE—in our communities there are many friends and family members that do not have the right to vote. When you cast a vote, remember that you are actually voting for three or four other individuals. Make sure that you exercise your right to vote! And don't forget to vote for me!

2) VOLUNTEER—this campaign has been successful only because volunteers have donated their valuable time to reach out to voters. In the spirit of civic participation, I invite you to give a few hours to help us "Get Out The Vote."

3) CELEBRATE—join us as we celebrate our accomplishments and what promises to be the beginning of an even longer campaign that will culminate in a victory in November. Our campaign party will take place at Cities Restaurant in East L.A.

I look forward to seeing you at the ballot box, helping us remind voters to VOTE, and celebrating with us after the polls close.

As a first-generation immigrant, I understand the dreams and aspirations of providing a better life for our children. We want good jobs, quality education and a safe community. My mother, a voracious reader, instilled the importance of a good education. I was the first in my family to obtain a college degree, two of my brothers also received their degrees, one of which is a school teacher and  the other a University professor.

I am a lifelong resident of the district. I attended Harrison Elementary School, Belvedere Middle School, Wilson High School and graduated from CSULA. I have worked as a middle school teacher and owned and operated a small business . In the last 10 years, I have served as District Director for a member of the Los Angeles City Council, State Senate and State Assembly. All of whom represented the 51st Assembly District.

This combination of work and life experience devoted to the same constituency has given me a sense of responsibility and a unique perspective in shaping state policy catered to the needs and resources required to serve the 51st District. For this reason alone, I believe I am the most qualified to serve.

I am committed to help California and the 51st District through:

• Good Jobs

• Improving and Strengthening our Education System

• Being a strong advocate for public safety that focuses on both prevention and enforcement.

I need your help to make Sacramento accountable and responsive to the needs of the 51st district. Please help me bring resources to our communities by joining my campaign as an endorsee, donor or volunteer.
