ERNC to Meet Tuesday to Discuss Bike Lanes, Funding for Dog Park, ‘Peace in Northeast’ Walk

Other issues include landscaping at Eagle Rock Library and city funding for neighborhood councils.

The Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council will meet Tuesday to discuss a host of issues ranging from bike lanes along Colorado Boulevard to funding for a dog park and landscaping at Eagle Rock Library.

The ERNC board will meet from 7 p.m. to roughly 9 p.m. at Eagle Rock City Hall. All residents and stakeholders are encouraged to attend.

The board’s “discussion and action” items will kick off with a presentation by ERNC Treasurer Ashley Atkinson about the community’s response to bicycle lanes proposed by the Los Angeles Department of Transportation on Colorado Boulevard.

A well-attended public forum on the issue was held last week at Occidental College, and Atkinson is expected to present the so-called “community impact statement,” summing up the public response. Thereafter, the ERNC board is expected to vote on whether or not to support the creation of bike lanes on Colorado Boulevard.

The ERNC board will also discuss and possibly vote on a request for funding $900 for the Hermon Dog Park in Highland Park, where many Eagle Rock residents are known to take their canine pets.

Among other items scheduled for discussion and action by the ERNC board is a request, pending a complete application, to fund no more than $1,000 for the annual “Peace in the Northeast” walk. The yearly event both appeals for and celebrates reduced violence in Northeast L.A.

The ERNC board will also discuss a $3,000 request for funding for the Eagle Scout Project for landscaping at Eagle Rock Library, and present a community impact statement to City Hall, requesting that the Mayor’s budget restore full funding to the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment, while restoring Neighborhood Council budgets to $50,000.
