Councilman Ed Reyes will host a community Town Hall at Mount Washington Elementary School on Thursday, Aug. 16 from 6-8 p.m. to introduce himself to new constituents.

Reyes' Council District 1 now includes most of Mount Washington following the implementation of new LA City Council District Maps on July 1.

According to Reyes' office, the meeting will present community members an opportunity to:

• learn about new Mount Washington district boundaries
• meet Council District 1 staff
• participate in a question and answer forum with
the Councilmember
• meet Northeast LAPD representatives

It seems that the council district boundary map on Ed Reyes's/Council District's website is outdated and doesn't reflect the redistricting. Has the redistricting not take effect yet? I'm near a district boundary and want to verify my representation. Anyone know where I can find a new or proposed map?

Teach? What in the world is Reyes qualified to teach? LOL!

Wow! There are several hostile (and undeserved) comments coming in. Not sure what inspired those snarky perspectives, except a desire to display a non-constructive outlook. As a long-term resident (23 years) of Mt. Washington, I have been redistricted through Jackie Goldberg, etc.... and can understand that some folks may be frustrated by redistricting. My practical comment is that we did NOT get enough advance notice about this meeting. This IS something that Ed's staff needs to address. W/r/t Ed's teaching: I've been on the faculty at the UCLA Dept. of Urban Planning (where Ed got his M.A.), and believe that he would be a valuable instructor at any of our excellent planning programs in the LA area. I only wish that we had been informed with sufficient time to arrange our schedules. But that can be address in future meetings with CD1.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. Perhaps you should consider the possibility that other people who live in this district have valid reasons to have views that don't match yours.

Goetz, you think there will be a next time? This guy never has community meetings. What are you talking about? You think he would be valuable in future planning? Are you kidding? We have a row of townhomes now across from the LA River and Taylor yard. And, more are being planned. And, he built a million dollar water fountain on North Figueroa and Riverside Dr. That money could have been used for a community center in Cypress Park or a skate board park for the kids to keep them out of trouble, but a million dollar fountain for yuppies that bicycle into the area but do not live there? Come on. Reyes allows the Union Pacific train to blast their train horns all night long all long the river. And, he is suppose to care about the LA River? But not the residents that live along the river? Reyes has been a ghost in the community. Don't know where you have been but I wonder if you know the community where you live or do you come down from the hill? Since Reyes lives in Mt. Washington I don't think he comes down from the hill either to find out what residents down the hill really need. He stays in his home in Mt. Washington and no where near Cypress Park where people in the community really need help.
