KPCC Camps in Eagle Rock to Weigh Public Mood About Mayoral Race

Reporters from Southern California Public Radio (KPCC) spent as many as eight hours Thursday at Auntie Em’s restaurant, trying to gauge the public mood about a single issue: What do people want to see in L.A.’s next mayor.

The KPCC reporters talked to—and blogged live—about 60 people from different communities, including Mount Washington, Highland Park, Eagle Rock and Glassell Park.

While many of the residents said—predictably perhaps—that they want the next mayor to install bike lanes, others expressed concern about a range of broader issues.

"It's been a hard time financially in last couple of years and people are focused on taking care of their families [while] marginalized communities get pushed to the fringes," Mount Washington resident Noah Wolf, 29, said, adding that he has been following the mayoral race since the preliminary election and that although he thinks both candidates have positive messages for voters, he's still undecided on who he'll vote for on Tuesday.
