TERA State of the Town Address on Wednesday

Mark your calendar for Feb. 1, 7 p.m., to hear Council Member Huizar's recap of 2011 for the community and prospects for 2012.

Urban planning issues, medical marijuana, massage parlors and crime are expected to be some of the key issues that will be discussed Wednesday at a public event that is something of a yearly rite for many Eagle Rock residents: TERA’s State of the Town Address.

The February 1 event, scheduled at 7 p.m. at the , is both an occasion for TERA’s annual meeting as well an opportunity for community members to interact with the evening’s featured speaker——while going over the achievements of the past year and looking at what lies ahead in 2012.

In a video interview with Huizar last month, Patch highlighted the following topics that the Council member said are likely to figure in tomorrow’s meeting:

Take Back the Boulevard. (A community endeavor to increase pedestrian and bicycle traffic on Colorado Boulevard by making certain alterations to the transportation and commercial corridor’s landscape as well as its sidewalks.)

Efforts by Huizar’s office to improve York Boulevard. (Another promising commercial corridor that cuts through Eagle Rock and Highland Park.)

• Updates on a regional designed as a loop connecting Eagle Rock Boulevard, Colorado, Figueroa, York and Downtown.

Medical marijuana. (Huizar’s proposal to ban medical marijuana facilities in Los Angeles was recently approved by the City Planning Commission and the City Council is expected to vote on it in the coming weeks.)
