LANCC Meets Saturday with City Controller Election Candidates & Prop. A Pro-Con Discussion- CAO Miguel Santana and Jack Humphreville

Meeting for March of LA NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL COALITION

Just a mention of another neighborhood council event that the city wide monthly meeting Saturday- totally separate from local NCs as all stakeholders and any of 95 NCs invited.

Northeast NC board members are few and far between in attending these coalition meetings but that could change. Stakeholders can see a lot more for some "heads up" on what's happening in the city operations directly from the people that run things at assorted departments.

The Department General Manager, Grayce Liu will be there and regularly attends, along with many other city departments making presentations, the numbers attendiing will vary depending on the topic.

Saturday's meeting Agenda below will present an opportunity for more information on the election candidate.

 ELECTION CHOICES- mine:

I support Cary Brazeman for City Controller. Dennis Zine is termed out of city council and still too compromised to consider for City Controller. I would vote for any of the other candidates over Dennis Zine, but Brazeman has been active at a grass roots level for years.  As I recall, he opposed the city's efforts to put sidewalk repair totally on the property owner.  That battle is still going on.

Miguel Santana is the chief number cruncher for the City of Los Angeles and supports the Prop. A Sales Tax increase.  Of course his math shows the city is very short- but the "WHY?" part is not his job.

Jack Humphreville, an NC board member with expertise on DWP matters developed over involvement years.  Jack will explain the reasons for NOT voting for "A" and Miguel is speaking to get you to vote FOR adding to the Sales Tax, a Permanent one.

(And the increase is 1/2 percent so don't think "half-cent tax" is the story- a half-percent added to 9% will give L.A. a 9-1/2 percent tax, one of the highest in the state).

With Prop A being a regressive tax and just another device to cover management failings of the City Council and Mayor Villaraigosa, it should be NO, and a better plan made.

DWP Advocacy Committee meets at 8:45am at same location.  A very long list of topics covered then but below is what LANCC has for the 10 am meeting.
