Blog: Tuesday Deadline to Protest New 'Clean Water, Clean Beaches' Tax

Reminder: Protest of another parcel tax that is coming from the County of L.A. if majority of County property owners' fail to send in protests. To be received by Tuesday, January 15 hearing deadline.

Note to readers: I mentioned this at the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council meeting Tuesday night among the general public comments for items not on the Agenda.  It dawned on me that that might not be the most effective way to get out the word, so here is a late, last-minute reminder to property owners of a tax measure that's come via a sly route, your mail, that may be mistaken for "junk mail."

There was a notice from the County of Los Angeles on a tax measure that you may not have noticed in the DWP bill among the usual notices that look like junk mail.

The PROTEST FORM is a small part of the entire notice form shown. (Outside DWP area but L.A. County property owners, notice in your own area utility bill.) It will subject property owners to a new parcel tax .

There are many locations on the web for more information about this tax and method of getting it by property owners without many noticing it. You can check a few of these locations.

That place to check is the "Altadena Blog," that gives you the story, yet is very  brief and to  the point: http://www.altadenablog.com/2013/01/clean-water-clean-beaches-protest-measures-must-be-in-tuesday.html A web site with a straight-forward explanation, AND to print the form shown. (or you can write your own letter with the same content, parcel number and sign it.) Either way, Return to the address that's shown on the linked web page and below.

Another place to get the infomation on this subject, as well: The item is on KFI- AM 640, John & Ken page:"PROTEST FORM FOR LA COUNTY FLOOD CONTROL TAX HIKE " Read more: http://www.kfiam640.com/pages/johnandken.html#ixzz2Hio3nNdJ

A.  THE SUBSTANCE of the protest form is below, essential to include PARCEL NUMBER (from property tax bill) and signed by property owner or authorized representative. B.  You need to use your own return envelope and your own postage stamp to mail it-  Mail this by Saturday- an early "last pick up time"- to be sure it's received by Tuesday.

Text of the protest form:

Protest Form

Property owners or an authorized representative may complete this form or write a letter, and mail to the Executive Officer of the Board of Supervisors, P.O. Box 866006, Los Angeles, CA 90086 or hand deliver at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, Room 383, 500 West Temple Street, Los Angeles, CA. To be counted as a protest, this form or your letter must include the Assessor’s Parcel Number and parcel address, be signed by the property owner or an authorized representative and be delivered no later than the end of the public hearing. Only one protest per property will be accepted and counted.

I protest the proposed clean water fee.

This is a county action. The city is planning the .5-percent addition to sales tax and another property tax as a bond measure of $3 Billion. More later.

Mj: Any witnesses to this incident will probably be key to your attempts to prove your son is notRead More lying. You might want to consider speaking to the parents of the student witnesses to try to ensure that the students will come forward and testify if necessary. If the parents can write—or sign—letters supporting your son's version of events, all the better. Get the letters notarized and send them to the concerned authorities, including at LAUSD and LAPD.

Hope you have phone insurance for stolen phones. If not you can file for a claim with LAUSD.

I have some questions about this camp: 1. What are the ages kids need to be in order toRead More participate? 2. What are the planned camp themes and activities? 3. How much does this camp cost? 4. Are the camp counsel ours CPR and First Aid certified? 5. Are the camp counselors trained in appropriately managing children? 6. Maybe they're moving to the space next door to the Comic Book shop. I'd say that there is a 50/50Read More chance that place becomes a massage parlor. Now that the bike lanes are decided, we need to come together to get these "rub and tug" joints closed.

By the posting I'm assuming that this was known to be a "bad place." I see a lot ofRead More massage "parlors" in the Eagle Rock and Glassell Park area but not a lot of real professional CMT's, which is discouraging since that's my cert and trade.

I'm thinking that this may have something to do with it - from the "Grand Theft Auto"Read More story posted today: "In addition, the vice unit of the LAPD Northeast Community Station arrested four women for alleged prostitution during recent investigations of 10 massage parlors in Eagle Rock, Preciado said. Two others were arrested for running massage parlors without a state massage therapy license, Preciado said, adding that the vice unit has not released the addresses where the 10 massage parlors are located.
