Patch Blog: Helplessly Watching a Poor Dog Get Hit
Do you know a shaggy dog like this that got hit on Colorado Boulevard on July 4th eve?
I am a New Yorker who visits a good friend of 25 years in Pasadena every year. On Sunday, shortly before midnight, on my way to the bar on Colorado Boulevard, I encountered a very sad situation—I saw a dog hit by a car.
I want to post the details here—just in case the owner hasn't found the dog or is unaware of this tragedy on the eve of Fourth of July.
I was taking my walk westbound on Colorado, roughly at the intersection of Loleta Avenue, when I saw a shaggy, gray dog walking on the sidewalk toward me. The dog decided to cross the boulevard and entered the eastbound lane.

It was obvious that the dog wasn't "street wise" by its gait. I didn't want to call for him because that might have confused him. Traffic was minimal at that hour and dog seemed okay, but I was nervous.
As he entered the westbound lane, I noticed a silver SUV approaching in the distance. I thought it was alright because the street is well lit and devoid of traffic at this point. I truly thought the SUV (which was traveling at a reasonable speed) would simply go around the dog.

But before I knew it, I heard a terrible thud as the vehicle hit the dog. The dog ran away down the westbound sidewalk limping and crying. The SUV did not stop.
I am very sorry; this was so painful for me to witness, but I thought the owner may be unaware of these details, therefore the post.
