At Oxy, Japan's Quake Victims Will Not Be Forgotten
Oxy students raise awareness about the victims' plight, participate in candlelight vigil and co-host a teach-in on campus.
held a day full of activities on Wednesday in an effort to raise public awareness as well as funds for victims of the recent tsunami and earthquake in Japan.
The activities kicked off on the campus quad, where members of a new student organization, "aidJapan," handed out sheets of origami paper to passersby, encouraging them to contribute to the goal of creating .
Later that afternoon, aidJapan and Oxy's Office of Civic Engagement invited several campus faculty members and experts from JPL and CalTech to a teach-in to talk about the geological, seismological, nuclear and cultural aspects of the disaster in Japan. An audience of about 40 students and visitors attended the event.

Later, audience members were invited to join in on a candlelight vigil and moment of silence at the Herrick Memorial Chapel across the quad.
