'Obama for America' Campaign in Eagle Rock

The president's supporters, many of them from Oxy, will be registering voters at Friday's Eagle Rock Farmers' Market.

Planning to hit the Eagle Rock Farmers’ Market Friday evening? If so, get ready to run into members of the “Obama for America Campaign in Eagle Rock.”

That’s right—while the president is busy competing with Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney in their race to woo voters in the November general election, his followers have launched a campaign for his re-election right here in Eagle Rock, where Obama lived as an freshman in the early 1980s.

Obama’s supporters will be at the Eagle Rock Farmers’ Market on Caspar Avenue this evening, Friday, trying to register voters “and get more people involved,” according to an e-mail that Patch received from Karthik Raman, the media liaison for Obama for America in Eagle Rock.

“So far, our efforts have been focused on developing phone contact with supporters of the president, although we are also using other methods to inform potential volunteers,” wrote Raman, adding that the Obama campaign has been “actively recruiting volunteers in the community and on Occidental's campus,” where many students share a “heavy involvement with the movement.”

Campaign team members for Obama also meet on Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at a volunteer’s house, and on Sundays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Highland Park Kitchen on York Boulevard, Raman said.
