Photo: Aldama Student Receives Letter from President Obama

Havannah Flores said she'll remember the letter for the rest of her life.

In November of 2012, students in Aldama Elementary Schools Dual Language Program learned about the nation's electoral process first hand. The students, who were taking part in the programs "Our Democratic Nation" unit, conducted a mock election and wrote letters to President Barack Obama, in which they addressed personal concerns about challenges facing the country.

One student, Havanna Flores, decided to mail her letter to President Obama. On Tuesday, Jan. 15, the President responded to Havanna's letter.

"I always appreciate hearing from young Americans like you," President Obama wrote in his response. "...America is counting on you to be the best student you can be."

"It is a moment I will remember for the rest of my life," she said in response to the President's correspondance.

Hooray for Havanna, and her parents. I agree with the prezzie. America is counting on you to take us into the future. So learn your heart out, Havanna! Bravissima.
