PHOTOS: Top Athletes Enshrined in Eagle Rock High School Hall of Fame

Many of Eagle Rock's greatest athletes return to be honored at their alma mater.

Legendary sports figures from years past gathered on the Eagle Rock High School campus Friday night in a memorable ceremony where four of their peers were inducted into the celebrated ERHS Hall Of Fame.

After a brief welcome by ERHS alumni president Eric Warren and Principal Salvador Velasco, Hall of Fame President Gale Fullerton (S-62) kicked things off by introducing those on hand. Inductees this year included: • Joe Conte (W-51), who died this past June and was recognized posthumously.

• Former track great Bob Johnson (S-58), one of the greatest track athletes ever at the school, who went on to a great career at Oregon State, where he became one of the nation's premier runners, even setting a world record.

• Dennis Chinn (S-62), an all-city football player and shot putter who went on to become a first team all-American player at Occidental College and was instructed by legendary Oxy and NFL coach Jim Mora.

• Andy Rivera (97), who excelled in volleyball. Numerous former inductees and prominent alumni attended the  event, many of whom still reside locally.

On a personal note. I would like to say how honored I felt to be in the presence of these legendary sports figures from ER's glory days. To see Bob Jones who I consider to be the best athlete I ever witnessed at ER ( I have covered ERHS sports for over 50years) made it a great night. I was unaware, like others at the event, that coaching great Jim Mora grew up in ER and attended Dahlia school and ERJHS. It was an awe inspiring event, Hats off to Gale Fullerton!

Henk, you photos are great. Would you like me to email you the many pictures I took at the Sports Hall of Fame. Also, would you like me to email you the four stories I wrote about the four inductees. It was great seeing you again, and thank you for the kind words. Gale Fullerton

My name is Chris jones. I am lucky enough to be the son of Bob Jones. Thank you all for honoring him last night. It meant the world to me to see you validate his accomplishments. He never bragged, boasted or told my sister and I about what he did in sports. He just guided us and let us have our own experiences. He is truly my " super man". Thanks for you're hard work last night. It is appreciated.
