Husband-Wife Team Warns of Atwater Burglary

Could a crime trend noted in Silver Lake-Echo Park be spreading elsewhere?

An Atwater couple was hard at work Thursday, reaching out to media to warn  of a burglary at their home Monday.

The couple lives in the 3200 block of Glenhurst Avenue in Atwater Village. According to the e-mail we received from Marina B., her home was broken into and entered some time between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on June 11.

Marina's husband also reached out to the Eastsider with the same information, noting that the bathroom and bedroom were targetted, with jewelry, cash and electronics stolen.

Marina told Patch that the burglar(s) kicked in a solid wood front door to enter. It was locked, but a neighbor across the street apparently did not see or hear anything unusual.

Marina B. also said that no one remembers hearing the couple's two dogs, which were in the backyard, bark.

Marina thinks that the couple's home near the 5 Freeway may have made it an inviting target, with proximity to a quick getaway.

She has this advice for other based on her experience: "Don't put your valuables in predictable places."

The Eastsider notes that another burglary took place in Atwater the same day, with two others occuring on Friday.

Could it be that a trend noted in Echo Park and Silver Lake lately is crossing the L.A. River?

Let's hope not.
