Blog: The 'Solheim Feeling' Goes High-Tech

Solheim Lutheran Home now offers high-speed wireless internet, allowing residents to stay connected with friends and family anytime, anyplace.

Thanks to your generous response to our technology fundraising appeal, Solheim Lutheran Home now offers high-speed wireless internet throughout our Solheim campus. Solheim Lutheran Home values human connection, and now—thanks to your heartfelt donations—our residents can stay connected to friends and family anytime, anyplace.

Connecting is even easier with our blessed new supply of iPads! Under the caring tutelage of Tyler Korzun, our tech-savvy volunteer, Solheim residents are eagerly adapting to this fantastic new technology. All over campus, residents are playing online games, finding Facebook friends, searching Google Earth for beloved hometowns and exploring exotic locales. Thank you, Tyler! At Solheim Lutheran Home, we’re never too old to learn new tricks!

We appreciate our big-hearted, multi-talented volunteers every day, but in celebration of National Volunteer Month, we want to give them a special shout-out. To each and every volunteer, for everything you do, we thank you. Thank you for accompanying our seniors on cultural outings, thank you for assisting in our holiday parties, thank you for your travel slide shows and marvelous musical performances. Thank you for reaching out a loving hand. Thank you.

In the Christian spirit of caring connection, Solheim Lutheran Home residents volunteer their time and efforts as well! Beulah Mohr is one Solheim resident with a personal mission. She knits comfy caps which she donates to cancer patients and service people. Thank you, Beulah!

Another long-running SLH resident service project supports the Navajo Lutheran Mission in Rock Point, Arizona. For many years the Campbell Soup Company, through its Labels for Education program, has provided free educational equipment in exchange for labels from their products. About 15 years ago or more, the residents of Solheim Lutheran Home got personally involved and have been processing UPC bar codes, bottle caps and bonus certificates ever since. It’s a lot of work, but Solheim Lutheran Home residents are up to the task!

Thanks to our Solheim seniors’ concerted efforts, the Navajo Lutheran Mission has secured eight life-changing passenger vans, brand new playground facilities, and a range of audio-visual equipment that greatly enhances the Mission’s educational efforts.

At Solheim Lutheran Home we love, value and appreciate our volunteers, resident and non-resident alike. Every volunteer contributes to the Solheim Feeling of warmth, caring and compassion. Whether you’ve a gift for teaching technology or a talent for connecting heart-to-heart, we invite you to join our Solheim family. We can’t wait to welcome you!
