My sincere congratulations to Eric Garcetti on winning the Los Angeles mayoral elections. It was a…Read More long hard work to get here. You deserve the chance to reinvigorate Los Angeles to its glory days and an economic recovery that will benefit all Angelenos.
Now the work begins, to build team Garcetti and implement a new successful administration with honesty and integrity.

I see this article is posted on every Patch so the local Eagle Rock editor probably didn't write…Read More this article.
Can anyone find out if its 600' or 1000'? Anyone? anyone?

"Both measures required a 1,000-foot buffer between medical marijuana businesses and…Read More schools as well as places of worship."
Can you quote your source for this comment?
According to the literature for proposition D the number is 600', however I maybe reading an older version of the prop.
Can you clear this up?
Thank you

Hey Cal, This was actually my fault. Because I spend so much time on Moorpark Patch, I think I…Read More automatically typed in "Moorpark" when helping out with getting the LA election news onto the Patch sites in Los Angeles . . . Usually when I make a silly mistake like this, I'll fix it behind the scenes before anything actually gets published. Last night, I found out one of the glitches to be ironed out in our new platform is items posted directly from other sites can't be deleted without deleting the original. Hopefully our tech genies get that fixed soon, but in the mean time, I'll definitely be more careful and keep our local site local (at least as much as I can. Some of the sponsored content is beyond my control).

Dear Patch People... Why include an article in the Moorpark Patch that has to do with local…Read More politics in LA? Why should this take up space in our Patch? Anybody following the elections in LA can turn to the LAT on line or any number of other sources if interested. Just wondering... I prize the local news and the timeleness of the Patch. Forget the stuff that doesn't really impact our community.

Yea! Let the gentrification of Los Angeles began. Garcetti has already been responsable for over…Read More 13,000 Latinos being pushed out of their neighborhoods and counting; yet, he goes around pretending to be a Latino. I guess I better get ready to pack my bags because little old working class me don't deserve to live here and its a matter of time before a developer push me out.

All I want is a Mayor who will not march in a parade of illegals. There was nothing more insulting…Read More than hearing that your Mayor is celebrating the cause of one of our biggest financial problems...supporting the illegals. The DWP thing bothered me also. They are out of control, so that negative advertising did bother me about her alliance with them. But I really did want Wendy Gruel to win, but didn't really care all that much, as long as they were not hispanic, because we saw what happened with Villairagosa.

Its is now almost 3 AM and only 20% of the precints in CD3 have reported their votes!!!! (CD 3 is…Read More the south/west SF Valley) while most CD's have reported 80-90%!!!!
What is the problem??? This seems very strange!

Such censorship on this thread tonight...Just confirms my feelings that candidate who ran the…Read More sleaziest campaign and remained without a platform lost the mayor's race tonight....

When it says the Los Angeles Times 'endorses' someone or something does that mean they took a vote…Read More of all employees working at the Times or is it just a meaningless blurb by a small coven of inflated corporate propagandists kissing A with the Federal government or some other powerful special interest influence?

The southern bit of Eagle Rock Boulevard is in CD1, and it is certainly at risk of being flooded…Read More with billboards. We already have a huge, obnoxious one at the entrance to the 2 North. Typically is features some half-naked bimbo peddling beer or something. The last thing we need is more blight along that section of ER Blvd.

I agree that Gil Cedillo is bad news for a several reasons, but he's not representing CD-14 so only…Read More CD-1 voters can vote for Jose Gardea to defeat this Sacramento veteran professional politician. Gil even says his "connections" will be used to improve the district- however the "connections" were earned at a price, as you see the many billboards, a lot outside CD-1 just to be sure every one sees it- and if free, even better for the candidate.
Being a long-time buddy of Antonio Villaraigosa is a negative, and Gardea has been the candidate thoroughly familiar with CD-1 as Chief of Staff to Reyes. The Professional Politician, schooled in political maneuvering while in the Sacramento Finishing School is something I don't like for L.A.
Herb Wesson is one Sacramento alum whose managing the L.A. Redistricting and city council to his liking as political pay-back. There were 5 ex-Sacramento lawmakers in the city council and Villaraigosa was another.
Locally familiar candidates would be better for LA than job hopping politicians searching for another office to fill- and at a hefty pay rate, $15,000/month. Being compromised with heavy support is what I see. The Wikipedia listing for Cedillo fills in more, dream act and drivers license for "undocumented" aliens were strongly supported - and that may be a "plus" for some voters, but priorities should be in keeping the state and city fiscally sound.

I'm glad no one was hurt in this accident. I was sitting outside at Four Café at noon on a…Read More weekday last week and two cars speeding down Colorado nearly collided when one changed lanes suddenly. The two motorists started honking at each other angrily as they zoomed off. These were not testosterone-fueled teenagers on a joyride, but rather middle-aged women driving expensive new SUVs. Drivers treat Colorado's six lanes as a freeway, so it's not surprised they get enraged when anything (or anyone) gets in their way or slows them down. It's time to turn our main street into a local thoroughfare that motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians can share.

If she has Huizar's endorsement, that cinches my decision for me, I'm going for Garcetti! Huizar has…Read More been the worst councilman this district's ever had, though he may amicable as an individual, he has destroyed his district. Also with all the moneys that unions have poured into her campaign and smear ads they paid for, they will want to get returns from Greuel. Unions have enough greed, most city employees are already overcompensated (for very little work and lots of time off)and with Greuel in the top office they will expect more. It is bad enough that they hold the city hostage with their strike threats, now they want to control the mayors office as well. If they feel they are not compensated enough let someone else take their position there are plenty of people who would gladly do it. Isn't it ironic that the words greed and union have the same amount of letters!

My name is Monica Alcaraz, I was one of the organizers of the event and talked to Greuel's camp. We…Read More tried to make every accommodation for her. We originally suggested the 29th and 30th. I was told by Nate Howard, that her camp ask that we make it a meet and greet. I explained that we wanted a debate not a meet and greet. Then Greuel's camp came back and said they could not do the 29th & 30th. They suggested the 1st or the 6th, we went back to Garcetti and he said he would debate any day Greuel could do it. Then Greuel's camp said they could no longer do the 1st but that they could do the 6th. So again we went back to Garcetti and he agreed to do the 6th. I went back to Greuel's Camp and told them Garcetti agreed on the 6th and the very next day they said they had to decline after agreeing. We really bent over backwards to accommodate Wendy.
It was also suggested, if we had a media sponsor that Wendy would definitely participate. Which I responded, we (NELA) should be important enough for her to participate without a media sponsor. We had about 20 community organization that wanted to be part of this event.
This was the same thing that happens when we had our forum. We could not get an answer from her camp for a long time of course she declined as well.
What is even more upsetting, is that our original dates suggested of the 29th and 30th, which they did not have events for until after the we approached them, we find out that Wendy agreed to a debate on the Westside on the 29th.
I was a Wendy supporter, until all this happened, girl power and all. But if you do not care about my community you will not serve us well or at all. Wendy has said we need a mayor for all Los Angeles, I guess the Northeast is not part of her Los Angeles.

Gil Cedillo is like a carpetbagger, besides being corrupt and unscrupulous he is virtually unseen in…Read More the areas he represents unless he is up for re-election or running for another office. Though I don't know much about his opponent or his record, he has to be a better choice than Cedillo. In South Pasadena he only shows up when there is a large crowd (like a parade) or when it benefits him not his constituents. With all the ads I have received he is obviously well funded by special interests, so I am supporting the less connected opponent,

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/01/california-gas-tax_n_2788918.html
In addition, California's gas is more expensive because of the blends of gasoline that we use as it compares to other states and the fact that the state makes it difficult for new refineries to be built, a condition that oil companies like very much. This lack of competition, coupled with our different blends contributes to the inflated prices that we pay. This is played out in Northern California where their low priced regular is what we pay in So.Cal for our premium grade. Your analysis is good, but leans on taxes being misappropriated makes it seem that a giant conspiracy takes place. Unfortunately, I cannot address these individual concerns about tax money being diverted and the freedom of information act allows for resourceful citizens and press to dig deeper and uncover these. City, County and State funding mechanisms rely on funding mechanisms
Unfortunately, much of the blame on these mechanisms can be blamed on our citizenry passing funding laws against general funds through the form of propositions or parcel taxes. Our state doesn't allow for the sunset or referendum of certain propositions and they stay on the books way longer than necessary.

Kathy: Officers respond to 911 calls from all over because the LAPD force is mostly deployed…Read More wherever they're needed. First, I applaud Ajay Singh's journalistic skills and attention to detail in his write-ups. Never a…Read More problem there! My comment here is about the new look... I don't like it! Apparently the Patch higher-ups have mandated a new look! Admittedly, I am a visual person, and this format is stark, at least when viewed on my friend's iPad. I imagine the parent company AOL decided that they wanted more eyeballs and audience engagement a la Twitter. I'm only recording my initial impression, but it looks like perceived function has won out over form here. It will be interesting to try out the various features, though, so " we'll see". Stay tuned! Again, this is my first impression here after 5 minutes of user experience. But, you only get one chance to make a first impression, they say.

Am I missing something, or has the section showing supporting PDF and other documents disappeared?…Read More As for the boards, it appears that people can just self-select their categories, and it doesn't seem to be community-specific. I see a PR blast for some old white Finance dude from Morgan Stanley's Pasadena in the "Announcements" section for Eagle Rock. Can I spam every board in the LA region when I promote myself to Chief Sandwich Engineer? Just how useful is this?
