The phrase "perfect victim perfect perpetrator" denigrates the law enforcement and the…Read More District Attorneys office unfairly. Whenever there are no witnesses and a high level of complicity a case becomes extremely difficult. I agree with the simple statement that No means No whenever it is said but I recognize the conundrum when there are two people claiming that it was and was not said.

How very sad that an article like this gets so little attention, but things like pot shops and bike…Read More lanes get hundreds of comments. And then the only two comments here so far are of a negative nature,
To answer all of AFG questions, 93% graduation rate, 98% college bound rate, and average SAT of 1417. This is mediocre? This would be a crowning achievement for any LAUSD school pricipal. These three stats speak for themselves. Congradulations ERHS, teachers, students, and the entire faculty, mostly students.
AFG, you could not even congradulate the students on their stellar achivements, instead choose to attack an entire school administration, and entire district, and wont even congradulate the teachers, who have achieved these great oucomes for their students in spite of all of the terrible things you claim are happening. What a pity.
Never put the kids first? 98% college bound,93% grad rate, 1417 SAT's!!!!!!!!!!! This is like a game of bridge, say all you want, but the numbers above are pretty much a trump card to everything you have said.

@HillDriver- who would I be congratulating? The principal? Sorry if my comments sound negative to…Read More you, but we are never going to get ERHS to be the very best it can be by accepting inflated numbers and district bull***t. Congratulations are always in order for the students and the teachers who go beyond the call of duty, but the sad fact remains that the principal has greatly worsened the school since he has been there and the ERHS of today is not the ERHS of 10 years ago. What this article is not telling you is that the 98% college bound rate does not mean acceptance to 4 year universities it means any college. That sounds like a very inflated number. I do not mean to not compliment any deserving student (but this was about the school not a group of students), but it is so hard to sit by and allow a mediocre, tyrannical principal take credit for inflated test scores. And if you think these stats are grand then just think how much better they could be if he put back the instructional minutes he took away; if he treated his teachers with fairness and respect or if he treated students with fairness and respect. This states an average SAT score of 1417 out of 2400 (is that stellar), but does not tell you HOW many students actually take the SAT. If you worked there you would know that this article is not at all the reality of ERHS. Perhaps you don't know this, but with LAUSD the numbers DO and CAN lie, because they are manipulated them impress. Mr. Mediocre needs to go, NOW!

Yes! There are some great athletes at ERHS and among them are full inclusion students.…Read More Congratulations to a very hard working group of students and their coaches. Like many athletes at ERHS, they practice and compete without much of an audience, so it's wonderful when they do get public recognition for their accomplishments. Many don't know that they also had to raise the money to travel to the Penn Relays, so props to all the kids. Best of luck!

A few things. This was our first year going to Penn. We do have a full inclusion team known as…Read More Double A in the city and they are a pleasure to work with, but there were no full inclusion kids brought on the trip. However, if you wish to see the Double A team, or any athletes from the Northern league participate. Our league finals will be held this Friday May 10th starting at roughly 5:30pm.

You might want to run a piece on Coach J.J. and Athletic Director Mr. Martinez who have put…Read More together a team to run in the prestigious Penn Relays. I don't have all the details but I know that these gentleman raised the funds and worked hard to get them there this week and that both of them are ERHS Alum.

Go Eagles! As an alum you've done me proud. Congrats to the students and teachers involved (they…Read More probably devoted countless hours to their pupils) and most of all to the parents. In this day and age when you hear all the negativity concerning young people it is nice to hear that these parents have had enough involvement to have their kids excel academically, since it all begins in the home.

What a great idea...all women should scour their closets for old bridesmaids dresses!

What a wonderful idea! I will ask my girls if they will donate their dresses and shoes.

Good for the Alumni at OXY! When the expensive private University cannot aid you with the standard…Read More communication tools that the rest of Colleges and Universities use around the country let it be know, and they should be responsible for security not just on campus but outside around the campus also.

I found this petition online at change.org, but I am surprise how few people really care. I mean it…Read More only takes a minute to sign and not many even acknowledge the importance of the issue or the petition.

What the writer (Gale Fullerton) fails to mention is what an integral role he played in the molding…Read More of these great athletes he writes about. Gale was very influential during his tenure at ERHS in helping the greats like Dennis Chinn, John Black, Bob Jones (just to name a few) to accomplish their goals. So lets give credit where its due.

On a personal note. I would like to say how honored I felt to be in the presence of these legendary…Read More sports figures from ER's glory days. To see Bob Jones who I consider to be the best athlete I ever witnessed at ER ( I have covered ERHS sports for over 50years) made it a great night. I was unaware, like others at the event, that coaching great Jim Mora grew up in ER and attended Dahlia school and ERJHS. It was an awe inspiring event, Hats off to Gale Fullerton!

Henk, you photos are great. Would you like me to email you the many pictures I took at the Sports…Read More Hall of Fame. Also, would you like me to email you the four stories I wrote about the four inductees. It was great seeing you again, and thank you for the kind words. Gale Fullerton

What we have here is closet conservatism posing as liberal's to further their personal business…Read More interest's,both Michael Larsen and Michale Nogeriea are no different than the Spanish Inquisition or the Salem Witch Hunters?
Ask Michale Noguriea why the Fire Department has cited him over the past several Months for safety violations, and the Building and safety has been out to his business?
"People in glass houses should not throw stones
The people of Eagle Rock would do themselves a favor and look at Michael Larsen, Michael Nougeria and the ERNC closer, because they are not what they seem, what next, will we be asked to burn books at the Library because they do not fit with these idiots views?
If the ERNC keeps going down this path, they will destroy the business community of Eagle Rock, and while I did support these fools in the past, I believe they are going too far, claiming all Massage Businesses are doing something wrong is absolutely absurd, they are trying to make a living, leave them alone?

I think those review sites have a lot of false reviews in order to boost their own annual…Read More subscription. I suffered back problems and went to get a deep tissue message which was great. No offer of happy ending, no hint of anything illegal. I think because these places have a sense of mystery to them, people start riding the stereo type train and review sites get people paying annual subscription fees to devour the reviews. It's like reality TV. Leave the business owners alone and focus on more productive things. Maybe everybody should go get a $50 1 hour message to relax themselves. It's a bargain.

Covering football games has not been the same without Joe's officiating. He enjoyed the sport, and…Read More added a n extra dimension to keeping the game flowing while being objective with his calls. Always had a smile for people. Fortunately his sons and grandsons have continued the tradition of officiating started by Joe.

Good teachers of course matter and I think most of them are quite good. I have kids at SRVHS and…Read More CWMS and for the most part am pleased with how professional they are. Sometimes though we do run into a bad one. When that happens my kids are strong enough to work through it and be fine but the weakers ones suffer.
In our school system it is MUCH easier for the teachers because you have VERY involved parents. We are a team and work with eachother. I hate the teachers union but respect the teachers. I also think there are many things we could do to improve things for students and teachers but we lack the backbone to do it.

I am responding to Shlripathi Kamath's post of January 15 which takes exception to a teacher who…Read More receives a 78% pension for 12 years of teaching based on a salary in her/his last year in the classroom of $78,912. The writer cites no source for the information, and as a retired teacher I am concerned that readers will take this claim as fact.
Please consider the following: teacher retirement in the State of California is administered by the state, not by school districts. It is based on teacher age at retirement, number of years taught, and birthdate.
Here is an estimate of what a California teacher might receive based on the profile the writer uses. It is based on the formula as I came to understand it in going through my own retirement process.
Using the writer's data, here is what a California teacher might receive If she/he
retires this June with 12 years of experience, a birthdate of 1946 and an age at retirement of 64 years and seven moths, her/his retirement stipend would be approximately $1,869.89 per month or $22,438.68 per annum. That equates to 28% of final compensation, not the 78% that the writer decries.
