Council Member José Huizar heads the 14th City Council District of Los Angeles, which encompasses EagleMore Rock and other neighborhoods in Northern Los Angeles as well as Downtown Los Angeles, Boyle Heights and El Sereno. Previously a member of the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education, Huizar was elected to the City Council in a special election in 2005 to fill the seat vacated by Antonio Villaraigosa following his election as mayor of Los Angeles. Huizar was reelected in 2007 and he ran successfully for a second reelection in 2011, winning another four-year term. A lawyer before he became a politician, Huizar is an alumnus of UCLA, UC Berkeley and Princeton University.

Huizar's office is in City Hall on Spring Street in downtown L.A, but part of his staff works permanently at the historic City Hall building in Eagle Rock, which was designed by architect William Lee  Woollett and built in 1922 as the headquarters of what was then the city of Eagle Rock. The city was annexed to Los Angeles the following year and the City Hall building became the office of the Council member. City Hall was renovated and rededicated in 1971.
