Tony Butka, Neighbor

Tony Butka is a longtime resident of Los Angeles and a community activist who has been involved in the Neighborhood Council movement since its beginnings here in L.A. He owns and runs the NELAlives blog, aimed at bringing people together to define problems, seek solutions and create the public concensus needed to move elected officials into action. Tony currently serves as a mediator with the State of California. Prior to that, he acted as the Executive Officer for the Los Angeles County Employee Relations Commission and, simultaneously, the Executive Officer for the Los Angeles County Civil Service Commission. He has worked on both sides of the table in the public and private sectors, dealing with negotiations, unit determinations, unfair labor practice charges, grievances and arbitrations, administrative hearings, certifications and decertifications, and training. He was a candidate for the City Council District 14 elections in 2011.
