Avenue 50 Studio and the Southern California Women's Caucus for Art (SCWCA) announce an exhibition in honor of artist, educator and curator Deborah Thomas who passed away in December 2012.
The public is invited to bring (or send) a small remembrance in image or word (no larger than 5" x 5") to the gallery.
Opening on June 8, 2013, the exhibition features the large, lush abstract paintings from Deborah's days as a New York studio artist hanging alongside more recent installations, writings and collaborative projects where she often delved into photographs and text on themes of family, found memory, landscape and the environment.
The exhibition was organized by the SCWCA Eco-Art Collective, a member-led group dedicated to creatively addressing environmental concerns, as a community project. Thomas was a long time member and recent curator of their 2012 "Wilderness Mind: Dissolving Duality" exhibition at Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro. She also participated for many years in the Arroyo Arts Collective where she first showed many of the installation and collaborative pieces that are featured in this exhibition.
