LAPD Issues Eagle Rock Residential Burglaries Alert

The Northeast Division of the Los Angeles Police Department is warning residents to stay alert for daytime home burglars in the wake of a recent spike in home burglaries in the Eagle Rock area.

According to a Community Alert notification posted by the Northeast Station on its Facebook page Wednesday, there has been a recent increase in daytime residential burglaries in the Eagle Rock area. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious signs by calling 911.

Since May 2, there have been at least seven residential burglaries in Eagle Rock, spread out all the way from Toland Way on the border of Mount Washington to Round Top Drive on the border of Glendale. Other locations include Hill Drive to the north and Hartwick Street toward the eastern edge of town.

The latest daytime burglary occurred on the 2000 block of Yosemite Drive. The incident, reported by an alert parent at Eagle Rock High School, led to the arrest of one suspect within minutes of the burglary.

Here are the seven locations where burglaries have occurred so far this month, according to CrimeMapping.com, the national data bank of crime statistics:

May 2: 3900 block of Toland Way
May 5: 4900 block of Glen Iris Avenue
May 6: 2800 block of El Roble Drive
May 9: 4700 block of Round Top Drive
May 16: 1200 block of Hill Drive
May 16: 2000 block of Yosemite Drive
May 20: 5300 block of Hartwick Drive

The LAPD Northeast Station offers the following advice to prevent burglaries:

• Call the LAPD’s non-emergency line if you see anything suspicious: 1-877-ASK-LAPD. There’s no harm in calling even if you’re not sure if the activity you see may or may not lead to a burglary. The important thing is that your information could prevent a burglary or some other crime. Calls to police from Eagle Rock are especially important because, as Northeast Division Capt. Jeff Bert told Eagle Rock Patch recently, it’s harder to catch burglars in the ER than, say, neighboring Highland Park, where the population density is higher and where neighbors usually have a good idea who committed a particular crime.

• Talk to your neighbors, local gardeners or other maintenance and service workers in the neighborhood. Tell them to contact the police if they see any suspicious activity.

• Get your mail and newspaper deliveries discontinued if you’re going to be away from home for any appreciable length of time.
